hailand cement giant Siam Cement Group (SCG) held on Monday the biennial Sustainable Development (SD) Symposium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The symposium this year focuses on the subject of the so-called circular economy. According to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the concept of circular economy moves away from the traditional “take-make-dispose” economic model to one that is regenerative by design.
The goal of this concept, according to the council, is to retain as much value as possible from resources, products, parts and materials to create a system that allows for long life, optimal reuse, refurbishment, remanufacturing and recycling
Attendees in the symposium include those from the government sector — including representatives of the Indonesian government — various global companies, SMEs, startups and civil society, who came to exchange their perspectives and share success stories about circular economy.
SCG president and CEO Roongrote Rangsiyopash, who made welcoming remarks during the symposium, said the circular economy concept was based on overcoming the challenge of dwindling natural resources.
Thai deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who attended the symposium and made opening remarks, said the circular economy concept was in line with the government’s strategy to drive the Thai economy.
