Jokowi inaugurates Kartasura-Sragen toll road

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated on Sunday the Kartasura-Sragen toll road, part of the Solo-Ngawi toll road in Central Java.
The Kartasura-Sragen toll road has four tollgates, namely the Ngasem tollgate in Kartasura, the Ngemplak tollgate in Boyolali, the Kebakkramat tollgate in Karanganyar and the Pungkruk tollgate in Sragen. The new road comes with an interchange located near Adi Soemarmo International Airport.
During the inauguration, Jokowi asked toll road operator PT Jasamarga Solo Ngawi (JSN) to allow small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to operate at empty rest areas along the road.
“First, I hope that the toll road can support mobility and reduce logistics costs," he said.
"Second, economic activities in rest areas should not be carried out by foreign [companies], such as fast food restaurants. There must be local cuisine or SMEs [...] to support economic growth for those living near the road."
Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljoni during the same occasion said the Solo-Ngawi toll road had a total investment of Rp 13.4 trillion (US$934 million) and was built to synergize with the Adi Soemarmo airport train, the construction of which was ongoing.
JSN president director David Wijayatno said trains could begin passing the newly inaugurated Kartasura-Sragen road by Sunday afternoon. Toll payments are cashless, with drivers charged Rp 1,000 to Rp 1,500 per kilometer, depending on vehicle type.
