A recently arrested cult leader in Serang regency, Banten, has been diagnosed with a mental disorder, police have said.

Doctors at the Soeharto Heerdjan Psychiatric Hospital in Grogol, West Jakarta, concluded last week a two-week examination on 38-year-old Aisyah Tusalamah Baiduri Intan, who had proclaimed herself Queen of the Jellyfish Kingdom, said Serang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Komarudin.

"The examination's result shows that [Aisyah] suffers from a severe mental disorder," Komarudin said as quoted by tempo.co on Monday.

Three doctors, namely Safitri Wulandari, Agung Priyanto and Endah Trilestari, observed Aisyah from Aug. 23 to Sept. 10. In their report, they concluded that she could not take full responsibility over her actions, Komarudin said.

Aisyah was named a suspect by Serang Police for spreading hate speech on social media. She has also uploaded videos of herself on YouTube in which she claimed that she could make Swiss banks give her all the treasures of Indonesia.

She has been charged under Article 28 of the 2018 Electronic Information and Transactions (IET) Law on spreading sectarian hatred.

The Jellyfish Kingdom cult has also triggered controversy for claiming that Prophet Muhammad was a woman.

The police arrested Aisyah after receiving a recommendation and legal opinion from the local chapter of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), which had denounced the Jellyfish Kingdom as "heretical". (fra)
