KPK to question James Riady over Meikarta case

The statement came a day after the KPK searched James’ house as part of the investigation for the case on Thursday.

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has said it would question Lippo Group CEO James Riady as a witness in a graft investigation surrounding the Meikarta mega development project in Bekasi, West Java.

“I just received information from the [KPK] team that we will question several witnesses from the [West Java] administration, the [Bekasi] administration and Lippo. [We will also] question James Riady as a witness,” KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said on Friday as quoted by Antara.

The statement came a day after the KPK searched James’ house as part of the investigation for the case on Thursday.

The modern city Meikarta project, running in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, is the flagship project by Lippo Group.

The KPK has arrested and named as suspects Bekasi Regent Neneng Hasanah Yasin and Lippo Group operational director Billy Sindoro, as well as several other top officials in the administration, for their alleged roles in bribery relating to the issuance of property permits for the Meikarta project.

It has also charged two consultants working for Lippo Group, Taryudi and Fitra Djaja Purnama, company employee Henry Jasmen, Bekasi Public Works and Housing Agency head Jamaludin, the agency’s spatial planning head Neneng Rahmi, the administration’s fire agency head Sahat MJB Nahar and Capital Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services (DPMPTSP) Agency head Dewi Tisnawati. 

Billy is accused of promising a commitment fee to Neneng Hasanah worth Rp 13 billion (US$858,468). (foy)
