T

he Immigration and Customs Directorate General has received a letter from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) requesting them to stop National Mandate Party (PAN) deputy chairman Taufik Kurniawan from leaving the country.

Taufik is one of the deputy speakers in the House of Representatives, in charge of Commission XI on economy and finance. He is also on the budget committee (Banggar), which is responsible for discussing the state budget allocation with the government, including allocations for regions, among others.

"We received the letter on Oct. 26," immigration office spokesman Theodorus Simarmata confirmed on Sunday.

The KPK has yet to confirm the reason behind the request.

Taufik had previously been seen visiting the KPK’s headquarters in Kuningan, South Jakarta, in September.

At the time, he said he was there to explain the mechanisms of state budget deliberations in the House.

Taufik's name has also been mentioned in a graft case pertaining to special allocation funds (DAK). Former Kebumen regent and graft suspect Yahya Fuad said during his trial that he had promised to pay Taufik a 5 percent fee if his regency was allocated Rp 100 billion in DAK. (kmt)
