woman identified only as SR, 48, died in Fatmawati Hospital in South Jakarta on Wednesday as a result of severe burn injuries that she suffered after setting herself on fire in an apparent suicide attempt.

“[SR] died at 12:05 a.m. on Nov. 7,” Fatmawati Hospital spokesperson Atom said as quoted by kompas.com on Friday.

Atom said the hospital had made every effort to save SR according to standard medical procedures.

SR had previously been taken care of at South Tangerang Regional Hospital, Banten, for her burn injuries before being rushed to Fatmawati.

Head of medical services at the regional hospital, Imbar Umar Ghozali, said SR suffered 80 percent burns to her face, chest, thighs, back and other parts of her body.

“We transferred her to Fatmawati Hospital because we do not have a burns treatment isolation room,” Imbar said.

SR reportedly set fire to herself in her rented house in Jl. Sukma, Ciputat, South Tangerang on Tuesday. She was saved by her neighbors who heard her screaming and rushed her to the nearby hospital. (gis)
