ne-hundred-and-twenty-eight job seekers have fallen victim to fraud after responding to an advertisement by an entity posing as state-owned railway company PT KAI. The perpetrators promised the victims jobs at the company after they transferred money.

The amount of money requested ranged from Rp 5 million (US$338.41) to Rp 20 million.

The fraud was discovered after the victims flocked to Gambir station in Central Jakarta on Sunday night as they were expecting to travel to Yogyakarta by Argo Lawu train to undergo training. They were expecting to depart at 8:15 p.m., but the tickets they were given were fake.

“Our security personnel questioned them after discovering that the tickets were fake,” Edy Kuswoyo, a spokesperson for the company, said in a statement.

He asserted that the company recruited only through its official website https://recruitment.kai.id and would not demand money from applicants.

“We urge members of the public to be vigilant and thorough when promised an easy route to become employees of PT KAI. We also would like to remind all to not forward any false information regarding PT KAI’s recruitment,” he added.
