A 20-day ERP trial was meant to commence on Wednesday with 205 vehicles.
he Jakarta Transportation Agency has postponed a trial of the long-delayed electronic road pricing (ERP) system that was supposed to begin on Wednesday.
Authorities hope the ERP can replace the odd-even license plate policy as a way to alleviate road congestion in Jakarta.
“The schedule for the [proof of concept], which is part of the technical evaluation, is also being delayed,” said the agency’s acting head, Sigit Widjatmoko, on Tuesday.
Without elaborating on the reasons for the delay, Sigit said the decision had been made in accordance with a technical evaluation by one of the companies building ERP equipment to be tested.
Through the trial, the city will decide on the winner of the ERP tender.
The 20-day ERP trial was meant to commence on Wednesday with 205 vehicles. There are currently three companies competing in the tender.
“The 205 vehicles comprise motorcycles, cars, buses and trucks,” Sigit added, noting that if everything ran according to the plan, the ERP system could be installed at the end of this year. (vla)
