A

farmer, Atma Bun Salim, 48, was hit by lightning and died in the paddy fields in Rancagong village in Legok, Tangerang regency, Banten, on Tuesday afternoon.

South Tangerang criminal investigation unit head Adj. Comr. Alexander Yuriko said Atma was struck by lightning while taking shelter in a shack in the paddy fields.

“The victim was taking shelter with his friend, then lightning struck the shack and killed the victim,” Alexander said on Wednesday, kompas.com reported.

He said Atma and his friend, Amsori, were working in the paddy fields when it started raining along with heavy winds and lightning, prompting the two farmers to take shelter.

However, after entering the shelter, lightning struck the shack and Atma fell to the ground. Atma was taken to a hospital but died on the way.

“The victim was taken to Hermina Hospital in Curug. However, on the way, the victim’s life could not be saved,” Alexander said. (ami)
