he ongoing strong winds that have been hitting some parts of Bogor, West Java, since Monday morning have forced the management of Bogor Botanical Gardens to close the park until further notice.
“Until an unspecified period of time, we, the management of Bogor Botanical Gardens has decided to temporarily close the park to visitors,” said park spokesman Ayi Doni Darussalam.
The measure aimed to mitigate the risk of trees falling on visitors.
“The strong wind might topple trees inside the botanical gardens, big branches can also break,” Ayi Doni said on Monday morning, as quoted by tempo.co.
However, he emphasized that people who had reserved entrance tickets for Monday would still be allowed to enter the park.
“[The visitors] would be guided to safe places inside the park,” he said, citing several areas that contain fewer tall trees, such as the Zoology Museum, around the Seed Bank and in front of Nusa Indah Guest House.
Bogor has been recovering from a tornado that hit the area on Dec. 6. The disaster had resulted in one death, plus five cars were hit by falling trees and more than 800 houses were damaged. (sau)
