Hidayat met the victim on a dating app.
As reported by tempo.co, the two agreed to meet on Sunday at the victim’s apartment.
According to the police, Hidayat asked the victim to give him the money up front. The woman refused, saying that she would give the money after the date, but later threatened that she would tell Hidayat’s wife about them.
When the quarrel got physical, said police, Hidayat strangled the woman with a cable and stabbed her in the chest, waist and wrist with a knife he found at the apartment.
Hidayat then took her wallet, jewelry, cellphones and the knife he used to stab her.
On the way home, he tried to get rid of the things he took away from the crime scene. He buried her cellphones in Mangga Cemetery, Gandaria, South Jakarta. He disposed of the knife, his jacket and T-shirt in Tempe River.
The woman was found on Tuesday by two of her friends, who said they had lost contact with her.
At the time of the arrest on Thursday, Hidayat was with his wife, children and parents, the police said. (gis)
