tate-owned gas subholding company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) has announced that it completed its gas pipeline network that will flow gas to households in Serang, Banten.

Funded by the state budget, PGN president director Gigih Prakoso said the gas network project was expected to help reduce the high proportion of imports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

“Following the project completion, PGN will flow gas to 5,043 houses in the Kramatwatu district in Serang,” Gigih said in a statement.

The project, which cost Rp 124.8 billion (US$8.83 million), is part of a long-term plan outlined by the ministry to build city gas facilities that connect 3 million households by 2025 and 5 million households by 2030.

In the operation, Gigih said, the company would fully use the gas supply from ConocoPhillips Indonesia Grissik Ltd (CPGL) of 0.2779 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd).

“In the future, more schemes will be established to provide more gas for communities,” he said.

Earlier, the government assigned PGN to build 1 million household gas network connections this year despite a limited state budget.

Gigih earlier told kontan.co.id that the company was waiting for a presidential regulation to allow PGN to proceed with the project, which would cost Rp 780 billion. Gigih said the cost of a gas connection to one house was Rp 10 million, which meant the budget would be enough to build connections to only 78,000 houses. (das/evi)
