T

wo motorcycle riders, identified as Arif and Sigit, died after being hit by commuter trains on the Bogor to Jakarta commuter line at the Rawa Geni crossing in Depok, West Java, on Friday afternoon.

Arif and Sigit, who were riding on a motorcycle together, were traveling from Jl. Raya Citayam to Rawa Geni. As they approached the railway crossing, the gate was down barring motorists from crossing over. However, the two went passed the gate by ducking their heads, Insp. Joko of the Depok Police traffic accident unit said.

“As they approached the Rawa Geni railway crossing, they crossed the gate and were run over by trains coming in opposite directions,” he said on Friday as reported by kompas.com.

It is not clear who was driving the motorbike and who was the passenger. Moreover, Joko said the two victims were run over by the train travelling from Bogor to Jakarta and were then hit again by another train heading to Bogor from Jakarta.

The two victims were knocked away while the motorcycle was dragged for up to 100 meters.

The victims were taken to their respective family homes to be buried.

The incident disrupted train services on several routes as authorities limited travel to one track, causing congestion on the train line. (gis).
