he police are searching for four suspects who allegedly provoked a clash between Tanah Abang street vendors in Central Jakarta and Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) personnel last week.
The four suspects were renting out space along the sidewalk of Jl. Jatibaru Raya for vendors to sell their goods.
"They are alleged to have told the street vendors to resist Satpol PP's raid," he said on Sunday as quoted by tempo.co.
The clash between Tanah Abang street vendors and Satpol PP was triggered by the latter's attempt to raid street vendors on the sidewalk following the construction of the new Skybridge for vendors. The vendors reportedly threw rocks at the personnel.
No fatalities were reported in the clash, which resulted in damage to a Satpol PP car. The police have found two suspects in the case identified only as EH and SY.
Lukman said it was possible the investigation could develop into one of thuggery.
"If there is extortion there, it could be alluded to as thuggery," he said. (ars)
