team tasked to screen prospective deputy governors for Jakarta has asked three candidates to present their ideas for the city during upcoming hearings.
“We ask them to present their ideas [for what they would do] as deputy governor,” a member of the team, Syarif, said on Wednesday as reported by kompas.com, adding that the hearings would be jointly conducted by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Gerindra Party on Jan. 27.
The PKS has offered two of its officials as candidates, who, along with a third, are Ahmad Syaikhu, Agung Yulianto and Abdurrahman Suhaimi.
Syarif, who is also deputy head of Gerindra’s Jakarta executive board, said the screening team would also interview the candidates to elicit information from them about issues concerning Jakarta, as well as to gauge their knowledge of the medium-term regional development plan.
The screening test is to be conducted by a panel of four. Besides Syarif, the three others are a political expert from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, Siti Zuhro, a public policy expert from the University of Indonesia, Eko Prasodjo, and a political expert from Jakarta State University, Ubeidillah Badrun.
Of the three candidates, two are to eventually be proposed to the City Council, which is to hold a plenary hearing to decide which would be the new deputy governor to work with Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan. The position has been left vacant since former deputy Sandiaga Uno resigned in August last year to run as a vice presidential candidate with Gerindra chairman Prabowo Subianto. (rin)
