Some 58 people with mental disorders have had their right to vote guaranteed in South Tangerang, Banten.
South Tangerang General Elections Commission (KPU) data division commissioner Ajat Sudrajat said that they had been included on the final voter list (DPT) as voters with a disability.
“The voters with mental disorders are listed because they have ID cards and a fixed address [they are not homeless]. They live with their families or at certain foundations,” he said on Tuesday.
The commission, Ajat added, did not yet have a specific voting procedure for voters with mental disorders.
“We’ve delivered information about the election to them. We told them they have the right to vote and asked them to prepare the data needed. They can ask for an aide or ask another person to represent them [during the voting],” he said.
Some 948,571 voters are listed on the South Tangerang DPT, 597 of whom have disabilities such as physical disabilities or mental disorders. (vla)
