he Jakarta Environment Agency held emissions tests for four-wheeled vehicles at the West Jakarta Municipal office on Tuesday, following a finding that motor vehicles contribute around 60-70 percent of air pollution.
The head of the agency’s environmental pollution management section, Agung Pujo Winarko, said a further 15 emissions test spots would be set up across the city.
“Not only in offices but also in malls and industrial centers,” he said as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.
“Therefore, people should get their vehicles’ emissions tested. It’s stipulated in Governor Regulation No. 31/2008,” he added.
The regulation sets emissions thresholds for every type of vehicle, according to fuel type and the year of production.
“If the vehicle fails the emissions test, the owner needs to get it serviced more often. They have to take their vehicles to service centers regularly,” he said.
