Police to deploy officers to patrol and supervise hotspots prone to illegal street racing in Greater Jakarta.
The Jakarta Traffic Police are set to patrol dozens of areas in the capital and its satellite cities that are known to have illegal street racing, according to law enforcement division head Comr. Muhammad Nasir.
So far, 39 spots have been identified in Greater Jakarta where racing is usually held at 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. during the fasting month.
“We will prioritize preventive measures with patrols,” Nasir said on Sunday, Kompas.com reported. “We will also station our security personnel on at [racing] hotspots during these times.”
Participants of an illegal street racing will be ticketed and sentenced according to Law No. 22/2009 on traffic.
Streets in South Jakarta often used for racing include Jl. Mampang Raya, Jl. Buncit Raya, Jl. Arteri Pondok Indah, Bintaro, Jl. Arteri Lenteng Agung, in front of Pancasila University, Jl. TB Simatupang and Jl. Panjang Permata Hijau.
In West Jakarta, they include Jl. Perjuangan RS Siloam, Kebon Jeruk, Jl. Panjang Kebon Jeruk, Jl. Daan Mogot, Cengkareng, Jl. Panjang Kedoya, Kebon Jeruk, Jl. Puri Kembangan and Jl. Joglo Raya.
In Central Jakarta, they are Jl. Benyamin Sueb, Kemayoran, Jl. Cempaka Putih Raya, Jl. Proklamasi, Jl. Asia Afrika Senayan, Tanah Abang and Jl. Gerbang Pemuda.
South Tangerang includes Jl. Pondok Cabe Raya, Jl. Raya Ciputat and the Serpong and BSD areas.
Tangerang city includes Jl. Hasim Ashari, Cipondoh, the Metland housing complex area in Cipondoh, Summarecon housing complex area in Kelapa Dua and Jl. Alam Sutra Boulevard, Cipondoh.
In Bekasi, they include the Komsen Jatiasih trisection area and the Rawa Panjang area in East Bekasi.
In Depok, they are Jl. Margonda, Jl. Sawangan Parung, Jl. Baru Depok and Jl. Arteri Cibubur, Cisalak. (ami)
