Depok's Child Protection and Family Empowerment Agency has committed to assisting a child who was reportedly repeatedly abused by her adoptive mother.
epok administration in West Java, through its Child Protection and Family Empowerment Agency, is planning to assist a child who was allegedly abused by her adoptive mother, identified only as SN.
The agency's head, Nessi Annisa Handari, said that they will ensure the child's recovery from both her physical and psychological wounds, as well as her education.
The child is being treated at Fatmawati Hospital in South Jakarta for burns all over her body. SN is accused of dousing her with hot water on May 24 in their house in Cinere district, Depok.
"We have coordinated with the city's Health Agency so they will cover the victim's medical expenses at Fatmawati Hospital," she said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Nessi went on to explain that the agency would also provide legal assistance for the child through its children's and women's service center.
"We have prepared legal aid from lawyers in the service center," she added.
A psychologist would also help the child recover from the trauma caused by the abuse that reportedly had occurred frequently.
"According to the report, the victim had endured frequent abuse. It will take a while until she can no longer be afraid and anxious, until she can play and laugh again," Nessi said.
The child, who is thought to be 10 or 11 years old, was homeless and was adopted by SN and her husband. She was asked to babysit SN's biological child but she allegedly suffered various kinds of abuse.
