A

n ill elderly woman in Bogor regency, West Java, has died in her burning house after her son reportedly set it on fire early on Thursday.

Bogor Police have arrested the 44-year-old son, identified only as AH, and named him a suspect in connection to the burning of his house in Cibungbulang, which killed his mother Nyai Titin, 77.

“He burned the house down because he was angry that none of his siblings cared about the victim’s poor health,” Bogor Police spokeswoman Adj. Comr. Ita Puspita Lena said.

She said the police initially suspected AH as he was not at the location when the fire occurred.

“Nyai Titin was found dead in her bedroom. Meanwhile, AH was not seen at the location,” Ita said as quoted by tempo.co on Thursday.

On Thursday morning at around 7 a.m., the police apprehended AH for questioning about the incident.

“AH admitted he burned the house down after [police] questioning,” Ita said.

The police said AH burned the house down by dousing gasoline in a storage room situated in the rear of the house and igniting it using rod lighters. The fire immediately engulfed the house. (das)
