orth Sumatra Deputy Governor Musa Rajekshah, popularly known as Ijek, participated at the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) that started from the Deli Serdang regency town square on Friday.

Musa, who paired with navigator Heri Kuntoyo and drove a Subaru Impreza WRX number 11, competed with 62 other drivers, including senior names like Rizal Sungkar, Subhan Aksa, Ryan Nirwan, Rihan Variza and Italian driver Fabio Frizierodi. The whole race was divided into 10 special stages that stretched for 169 kilometers.

“I am all out for this race. I have made serious preparations for this,” he said.

He said his participation in the race did not interrupt his duties as deputy governor. In fact, he added, Governor Edy Rahmayadi had supported him to carry on.

“Pak Edy is 100 percent behind me on this,” he said.

The chief of the Indonesia Motorsports Association North Sumatra branch, Faisal Arif Nasution, said the last time the province hosted a similar race was in 1994. He acknowledged the province was given another chance to organize the rally in 1997, however the local organizer refused because of the economic crisis at that time.

He said after the North Sumatra rally, similar championships will be organized in Australia in August and China in October this year.
