Gema Fajar’s brilliant ton helps TKCC chase down record total

It was a weekend for chases in the Indonesian Cricket League with all four games being won by the team batting second. Indonesian players across three teams took home man of the match honors with Gema Fajar’s magnificent ton in a record chase being the highlight.

The weekend kicked off with the Apacs Warriors taking on Jaguar Punjab XI and Dhanesh Kumar’s three wicket blitz had the Jaguars in very early trouble after they elected to bat first. Desandri chipped in with two wickets and the Jaguars were struggling at 21 for 5. Ajay Kurtkoti then came to the party and at 46 for 7 everything seemed lost for the Jaguars. Karanjit Singh then stepped up with a superb captain’s knock to take his team to a fighting total of 113.

The young Shubham Patni rocked the Warriors chase with two wickets in the very first over to bring his team right back into the game. Ajay Kurtkoti then decided to use aggression to get his team out of the hole and succeeded brilliantly as the Warriors reached 90 for 2 in the 12th over and were cantering toward the target. Abhay Sharma’s then triggered panic with some quick wickets and it appeared that the Warriors had blown a great position. Desandri, however, held his nerve to take his side home with two wickets in hand.

Eki Antaria played an anchoring role as wickets fell around him after the Ceria Komodos chose to bat first against the Crickingdom Lions. Rizky Julian hit a few big ones toward the end but the Komodos could only manage 117 in their 20 overs. Suhail Modak and the spinners Gamantika and Amar Kapadia were the Lions best bowlers on the day.

Vivek Nair got same late swing to give the Komodos some hope with a couple of early wickets but Gamantika batted brilliantly to take the Lions home with six wickets and plenty of overs in hand.

The Daehan Smashers extended their unbeaten run with yet another comfortable win, this time over Jaguar Punjab XI. Gaurav Tandon kept one end quiet while Karthigai Deepan chipped away with early wickets at the other end as the Jaguars got off to a poor start. Repan Desnika and Harry Sidhu started the rebuilding but Anjar Tadarus bowled very well as his four wickets ensured the Jaguars were once again bowled out for 113, the second time in two matches for them this weekend.

Anjar Tadarus then returned with the bat and his blistering knock took the game away from the Jaguars. Gowtham Rajaram batted sensibly at the other end to give the Smashers their fourth win in four games.

The Crickingdom Lions chose to bat first against the TKCC Royals and Gufran Khan got them off to a speedy start. Mukesh Khetan got rid of the dangerous Gamantika early on but Syed Kabir and Virak kept the Lions innings on track. The prolific Poonam Bumb struck twice to bring the Royals back into the game but that marked the entry of Sampath Kumar. He was clearly in the zone as he plundered 76 of just 35 balls to take the Lions to a huge score of 198 in their twenty overs.

The Royals were clearly up against a formidable total but Gema Fajar was in the mood for some magic. His sublime timing ensured the Royals kept up with the high required run rate right from the start as they reached 63 without losing a wicket inside seven overs. Gamantika struck with two quick wickets but Srini Govintharaj played the ideal foil to Gema as they kept building a strong platform. Forty-eight runs were needed off the last four overs and a big over was needed. It came in the 17th over as both batsmen took to Suhail Modak with three big sixes that also brought up Gema’s hundred. Despite a good 19th over by Gamantika, TKCC got home in a superb win.
