P

olice have named a student of Huria Batak Protestant (HKBP) senior high school in Sidikalang town, Dairi regency, North Sumatra, as a suspect in the case of a fatal school fight.

Dairi Police said that a schoolyard fight reportedly broke out between the two high schoolers, identified as SO and SPN. SO allegedly kicked SPN in the chest and knocked him unconscious.

SPN was rushed to Sidikalang Regional General Hospital, but died shortly after he was admitted.

“After talking to several witnesses, we have named SO as a suspect in the case,” Dairi Police spokesperson Second Insp. Donni told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

Donni said the police had requested SO’s parents and officials from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) to accompany SO during the investigation.

“This afternoon, we will bring SO to the IIB Sidikalang juvenile detention center,” he added.

The body of SPN was released on Thursday to the  Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Medan for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

SPN’s uncle, Open Lumbangaol, said that the family was devastated by the death of the student, who was the only child of a single mother, "as his father died two years ago”.

Open said that SPN’s mother, a farmer, was still in shock over the news.
