COVID-19: South Tangerang reports first fatality

anten Governor Wahidin Halim announced on Monday that the first fatality had been recorded among the five reported COVID-19 cases in South Tangerang.

“One patient, [a resident] of Pondok Aren district in South Tangerang, has died,” Wahidin said at his official residence in Serang, as quoted by tempo.co.

There are now four confirmed COVID-19 patients in South Tangerang, he said.

Banten Health Agency head Ati Pramudji, who also helms the province’s COVID-19 task force, said the remaining four patients came from several districts across Tangerang regency, with two from Kelapa Dua district, one from Curug district and one from Ciledug district.

At the time of writing, 18 patients with suspected Covid-19 symptoms are under the local administration’s surveillance while 130 others are under observation. Five suspected cases have tested negative, while 13 others are still awaiting test results.

Wahidin called on the people of Banten to stay home as much as possible and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“Don’t go out if it’s not urgent, avoid public spaces and consume [nutritious food],” he said.

Indonesia announced 17 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 134.

As of Monday, eight people had recovered from the disease, while five had died. (rfa)
