A motorist seen in a video apparently littering on Jl. Inspeksi Kalimalang in Bekasi regency, West Java, has surrendered himself to the Bekasi Police after the video went viral on social media.
Instagram handle @bekasikinian posted the video on Wednesday, showing the driver of a white van dumping at least four large trash bags.
After the video went viral, authorities said that they would search for the driver.
“He surrendered himself [to us] rather than being arrested by authorities,” Bekasi Police chief Comr. Hendra Gunawan said on Thursday, as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that the driver told the police that the trash bags were filled with household waste. Hendra, however, did not reveal why the driver left the trash bags on the roadside rather than at a dump site.
Bekasi Police investigators have questioned the driver and the case will be handed over to the Bekasi Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), Hendra went on to say.
According to a 2006 Bekasi bylaw on waste management, any individual found littering faces a maximum punishment of three months in prison and fines of Rp 5 million (US$339). (dpk)
