In the ceremony, Desra joined Tranmere Rovers chairman Mark Palios, vice chair Nicola Palios and Mark Pennifold, the chief people officer of Essar, the primary sponsor of the soccer club.
ndonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Desra Percaya over the weekend attended the official ceremony to unveil the home kit of English soccer club Tranmere Rovers.
In the ceremony, Desra joined Tranmere Rovers chairman Mark Palios, vice chair Nicola Palios and Mark Pennifold, the chief people officer of Essar, the primary sponsor of the soccer club.
Also attending the ceremony via video conference was Lukito Wanandi of Indonesia's Santini Group, which holds shares in the club.
"This is an honor to me and I have never dreamed about this. In fact, I have never been to a UK soccer stadium before," Desra said in his speech following the unveiling ceremony.
Palios said the new home kit was part of strategies launched by the team to reconnect with fans, also known as the Super White Army, who had to be socially distanced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new design brings back the retro crest, which is proudly displayed on the chest of the shirt, adjacent to the logo of Mills Sport, the Indonesian manufacturers of the jersey.
"The reintroduction of the old crest is in part symbolic. The blue and white crest was introduced as a cost saving measure when times were hard for the club, and we think that reverting back to the traditional multi-coloured badge is a sign of our renewed confidence for the future," Palios said in a statement.
In the summer of 2020, Tranmere Rovers launched a competition to let the Super White Army design their dream home kit, with the winning design for the contest to be used by Mills in its manufacturing process.
Mills is also the jersey supplier for the Indonesian national soccer team.
Santini Group said in a statement that the decision would allow Mills to showcase Indonesian products to fans of Tranmere Rovers and English soccer fans more generally.
“We want to help Indonesian firms, especially SMEs, to penetrate the English market and eventually the global market,” Santini Group director Wandi Wanandi said.
