Over 20 contract COVID-19 at Bali governor’s residence

M

ore than 20 people living and working in the Bali governor’s official residence, Jaya Sabha, have tested positive for COVID-19.

Bali Governor I Wayan Koster confirmed the news on Thursday, kompas.com reported. He revealed that his four adjutants and one gardener were among those who had been infected.

Koster’s wife, Ni Putu Putri Suastini Koster, recently posted a video on her Instagram account @niputuputrisuastini, announcing that she, too, had found out she had COVID-19 after taking a swab test.

According to her doctor, she was asymptomatic, she said in the video. “All of my vitals, including blood sugar and blood pressure, are normal. My lungs and blood oxygen level are also fine,” Putri said.

She added that she and her children had been placed under quarantine at a provincial administration dormitory to prevent her from transmitting the disease to other people.

Koster urged the public to take COVID-19 seriously and to ignore conspiracy theories and pandemic deniers.

“The conspiracy theories are untrue. Many people have died.”

He also urged residents to follow the strict health protocols of wearing masks, maintaining a physical distance and washing their hands regularly.

As of Saturday, Bali has recorded 8,452 COVID-19 cases, with 247 deaths and 6,915 recoveries.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the Bogor regency legislative council, Rudy Susmasto, announced on Friday that he would temporarily withdraw from council activities after testing positive for COVID-19.

“I underwent an independent swab test, and the result came out on Sept. 25 at 12:45 p.m. I was declared positive for COVID-19,” he explained in a written statement on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

“As of today, I will temporarily withdraw from the council’s activities for the next few days until I completely recover,” he added.

However, Rudy vowed to keep abreast of the council’s activities through online platforms.

He also said he had instructed the council to assess council members for possible COVID-19 infections, adding that he hoped all members would continue to adhere to health protocols.

Rudy is the latest in a string of central government and regional administration bigwigs to contract the disease in recent weeks. Bima Arya, the mayor of neighboring Bogor city, had tested positive back in March but has since recovered.

The Bogor regency task force has detected COVID-19 clusters in four government offices in the region, namely the Public Works and Housing Agency, the Revenue Management Agency, the Land and Settlement Housing Agency and regional tap water company PDAM.

Bogor regency has recorded 1,645 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 50 fatalities as of Saturday. (dpk/trn)
