KPK detains two more suspects in Bakamla graft case
The suspects have allegedly caused Rp 63.8 billion (US$4.5 million) in state losses.

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained two more suspects for allegedly accepting bribes pertaining to the procurement of a backbone coastal surveillance system at the Maritime Security Board (Bakamla).
The two suspects detained were Bakamla’s procurement service unit head, Leni Marlena, and a coordinator from the same unit, Juli Amar Ma’ruf.
“These are the suspects who remain accountable to the public,” KPK deputy for enforcement Karyoto said in a press conference on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.
Leni and Juli will undergo isolation in line with COVID-19 health protocols before being placed in separate state detention centers in South Jakarta. “The detainees will first be isolated for 14 days at a detention center at the KPK’s Anticorruption Learning Center [ACLC],” Karyoto said.
Leni and Juli were named suspects in July 2019 in the case that implicated Bakamla’s data and information director commodore, Bambang Udoyo, and the president director of telecommunications contractor PT CMI Teknologi, Rahardjo Pratjihno.
The Jakarta High Military Court has sentenced Bambang to four years and six months in prison, and the Jakarta Corruption Court has sentenced Rahardjo to five years.
Leni, Juli, Bambang and Rahardjo have allegedly caused state losses of around Rp 63.8 billion (US$4.5 million), based on calculations by the Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP).
In May 2017, the president director of Merial Esa, Fahmi Darmawansyah, was also found guilty for bribing four officials in a graft case pertaining to the procurement project and was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. He was also ordered to pay a Rp 150 million fine.
Along with two executives of his company, M. Adami Okta and Hardy Stevanus, Fahmi allegedly bribed Bakamla deputy chief Eko Susilo Hadi with Rp 2 billion to win the tender for the system project worth Rp 222 billion.
In the same month, Adami and Hardy were sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for their roles in the bribery case.
Besides Eko, they also allegedly handed bribes to Bambang, Bakamla’s head of planning, Nofel Hasan, and Eko’s administration staffer, Tri Nanda Wicaksono. (syk)
