View all search resultsThe state budget next year has been in the spotlight after Prabowo, who is currently the defense minister, announced that he would push forward with his free lunch program for Indonesian schoolchildren, which is estimated to cost Rp 1 trillion per day.
The finance minister said there was nothing irregular about automatic adjustments in the state budget, saying that the government had used the fiscal mechanism since 2022 to cover urgent and unexpected spending.
Indonesia posted the lowest budget deficit in years, but experts say the smaller-than-planned gap between state revenue and state expenditure also means the government could have done more to support economic growth.
In order to achieve the 2045 development goals known as Indonesia Maju (Onward Indonesia), one of the government’s main focuses next year is economic transformation. This includes continuing to develop the national infrastructure, improve human resource quality, develop a green economy, use renewable energy, strengthen bureaucratic reform and simplify regulations.
