View all search resultsPig farmers are concerned that the disease is related to the African swine fever outbreak that has resulted in the deaths of almost 50,000 pigs in North Sumatra over the past few months, but Balinese officials have yet to confirm the suspicions, saying they are awaiting the results of laboratory tests.
As many as 42,000 pigs have been killed by ASF and hog cholera, with the majority, around 27,000 pigs, dying in the three months from September until December last year, according to the latest data from the North Sumatra Food Security and Livestock Agency.
