View all search resultsParts of the Boeing 737-800 were strewn across mountain slopes charred by fire after China's first crash involving a commercial jetliner since 2010. Burnt remains of identity cards and wallets were also seen, state media reported.
Boeing managed to get the 737 MAX back into the air in late 2020 after it was grounded for 20 months following two fatal crashes, and recently announced an order for 100 of the aircraft as the airline sector begins to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
Searching around the clock, about 2,600 rescuers with 13 planes and 53 ships have been deployed, recovering human remains believed to be those of some of the 62 people who were on board Sriwijaya Air Flight SJ182 as well as suspected debris from the aircraft.
