Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy made the announcement on Monday following a coordination meeting joined by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo and head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto.
The health minister appears to have backtracked on last month's comment about a special policy for wealthy subscribers, clarifying that the national healthcare agency will continue to provide basic health services under a standardized “universal” scheme that will eliminate the current three-tier health insurance.
The Health Ministry has temporarily banned sales of all syrup-based medications and has been looking closely at paracetamol syrups used locally to treat fever in children that contain diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol.
