View all search resultsA group of small and medium business owners have filed a class-action lawsuit against President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto for what they perceive to be the government’s negligence in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, which has taken a toll on their livelihoods.
The five plaintiffs in the lawsuit, which was registered on Jan. 13, represent flood victims from each of Jakarta’s five municipalities. The lawsuit cites Law No. 24/2007 on disaster mitigation, which stipulates that the central and regional governments are responsible for disaster mitigation.
Based on a report released by the advocacy team — which asked Jakartans to email the losses they had incurred because of the massive flooding — the losses from 243 verified reports amounted to Rp 43.32 billion.
The Central Jakarta District Court held a hearing over a historic civil lawsuit on air pollution, filed by civilians grouped under the Jakarta Advocacy Movement Team to fight for better air quality in the capital.
