View all search resultsPresident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has appointed Muhammad Sirajuddin "Din" Syamsuddin, the former Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) chairman and former chairman of Indonesia’s second largest Islamic organization Muhammadiyah, as a special envoy for religious harmony.
Inter-Religious Council (IRC) president Din Syamsuddin has urged electoral candidates and their campaign teams not to upset people in their religious beliefs. Doing so would kindle public rejection, as had happened to Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama.
