View all search resultsThe US mining giant says it expects to soon get final export approval for local subsidiary Freeport Indonesia, after a fire last October prompted the company to close operations and file an extension request.
Freeport-McMoRan CEO Kathleen Quirk said last week that the miner would not be affected by any copper tariffs as they sell all their US copper domestically and their Indonesian metal goes to Asia. But she worried about any potential inflationary effects of copper tariffs.
PTFI, which has obtained a mining license in Indonesia since 1967, has been in negotiations with the government to have its contract extended until 2041 to secure its operations, including getting fiscal and regulatory guarantees.
Freeport Indonesia CEO and Kadin vice president of investment Tony Wenas said regulatory stability and continuity beyond next year's general election was important for investors across the country.
