But local media reported that Duterte himself, who in October announced his retirement from politics, may run for vice president by Monday, the deadline for the parties to change candidates whom they fielded during the official filing period last month, leaving the possibility of a battle between father and daughter.
Sara Duterte-Carpio is currently mayor of Davao, the Philippines' third-largest city, and filed on Saturday to contest the role again. She has previously said she would not run for national office next year.
The process should put an end to months of speculation over who will vie to succeed firebrand President Rodrigo Duterte, 76, who under the constitution cannot seek reelection and will contest the vice presidency race instead.
