Myanmar’s crisis has reached unprecedented levels, marked by mass displacement, environmental devastation caused by militarization, widespread human trafficking through scam centers and the inhumane treatment of political prisoners.
Written on February 16 by Peter Marocco, the acting USAID deputy administrator, the email provides a window into some of the thinking behind the administration's drive to terminate aid programs that it does not believe benefit the US.
In the letter, dated February 28, the International Organization for Migration said it would be unable to provide healthcare and cash assistance to 925 Rohingya refugees sheltering in Pekanbaru, Riau from March 5, "due to resource constraints". Some help would continue for the most vulnerable people, it said.
Khadiza's first initiative was to start accompanying female Rohingya refugees to hospitals and schools, before opening a Japanese language school as a volunteer while offering consultations to help them solve their problems.
