View all search resultsIndonesia is gearing up to launch its SATRIA-1 multifunctional satellite, expected to be Asia's most powerful with its 150 Gbps capacity, in its bid to provide internet connectivity across the country, even in blind spots.
Current production of Satria-1 megaproject has entered a critical phase; it is hoped that cooperation with Thales Group could run smoothly so that the launch of the multifunction satellite could be carried out on schedule in July 2023.
The International Telecommunication Union has given Indonesia seven more months to place the Satria satellite in orbital slot 146°E lest the country have to launch an expensive substitute or the ITU give the slot to another country.
The signing of the agreement on the multifunction satellite project, managed under the Communications and Information Ministry, was between two companies, namely satellite provider PT Satelit Nusantara Tiga, part of the consortium of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN), and French-Italian aerospace manufacturer Thales Alenia Space (TAS).
The project was targeted to be completed in 2022, when satellite operator Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) – which runs the Satria project on behalf of the Communications and Information Ministry – is slated to launch it into space.
