Cita Tenun Indonesia commemorates its 15th anniversary celebrating tenun by providing more training for weavers and introducing the fabric to a wider audience.
The recognition of batik as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity on Oct. 1, 2009, which also marked National Batik Day, has expanded the market for the traditional cloth as Indonesians now wear batik shirts or dresses, or even kebaya, to work.
Non-Indonesian delegates donned batik and traditional Indonesian textiles to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) open debate on peacekeeping operations, which was led by Indonesia in its role as the UNSC president for 2019-2020.
