With accusations and criminalization mounting against her, Indonesian human rights lawyer Veronica Koman has said she is being forced to return hundreds of millions of rupiah of government-sponsored scholarship in what she claims is a financial punishment imposed against her.
Protests took place simultaneously in several cities in Indonesia on Monday demanding that authorities drop all charges and release seven Papuan activists accused of treason at the Balikpapan District Court in East Kalimantan for their involvement in anti-racism protests in Jayapura, Papua last year.
Coordinating Legal, Political and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD clarified on Thursday that he did not refer to documents on the victims of human rights violations in West Papua recently handed over to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo as trash.
The letters include the names and locations of 57 political prisoners charged with treason, held behind bars in seven cities across Indonesia. They also include a list of the names and ages of 243 civilians who have died since Dember 2018 in the Nduga military operation.
