View all search resultsAn extended drought that hit the southern part of Wonogiri, Central Java, in March has triggered a clean water crisis, forcing the regency administration to allocate Rp 13.3 billion (US$ 997,226.02) of its annual budget to assist in drought response efforts.
About 15,000 residents of eight villages in the southern area of Wonogiri regency in Central Java have reportedly been suffering from severe drought for the last several weeks. As a result, villagers have had to collectively pay between Rp 70,000 (US$5.3) and Rp 100,000 apiece for 6,000-liter tanks of water.
Hundreds of thousands of Wonogiri people who reside in Jakarta have been asked by Wonogiri deputy regent Edy Santoso to maintain peace in the capital during the Jakarta gubernatorial election by not participating in the upcoming rally.
