View all search resultsThe Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is set to help the United Kingdom’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) probe corruption allegedly committed by Canada-based airplane manufacturer Bombardier Inc. in a deal with national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia.
The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Community (MAKI) filed a report against Firli for using a private helicopter to take a personal trip from Palembang, North Sumatra, to his hometown of Baturaja in the same province in June.
The concerns were raised by antigraft activists over funds funneled to regions for social aid to weather the economic and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the new KPK Law enacted in October last year could hamper the investigation process.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has not yet been able to arrest two key graft suspects who are still on the loose, former Supreme Court secretary Nurhadi and politician from the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Harun Masiku, months after the antigraft agency named them suspects in two separate cases.
Since Firli Bahuri was inaugurated as KPK chairman in December last year, the antigraft body has only launched two operations: to arrest Sidoarjo regent Saiful Illah and KPU commisioner Wahyu Setiawan.
