View all search resultsDozens of people allegedly destroyed and burned the “Struggle Tent,” which was erected by Mount Kendeng farmers in protest of the construction of cement factories in the Pati and Rembang regencies on Friday evening following a blockade carried out by the anti-cement camp earlier in the day.
About 20 representatives of the Rembang and Pati residents who have fought against the establishment of a cement factory in a karst area around Mt. Kendeng, Central Java, met with the province’s governor, Ganjar Pranowo, on Tuesday. In the meeting the residents questioned the governor’s decision to issue a new environmental permit.
After a tough year, the cement industry has started to see the light. The vigorous development of infrastructure and property, part of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s vision, started to have a positive impact on cement consumption in August.
