This time, the debate extends beyond tariff reductions to a more sensitive issue: the possible easing of halal certification requirements for US products entering the Indonesian market.
The recently signed trade deal between Indonesia and the United States has drawn criticism from lawmakers and Islamic leaders, who have warned that exemptions for certain US products and the recognition of foreign halal certification agencies could weaken national halal standards.
BGN head Dadan Hindayana, stated that the majority of trays used in the program were produced locally using plant-based lubricants. However, he acknowledged that Indonesia still imports approximately 4 million trays per month, as domestic manufacturers are unable to meet the growing demand.
One of Indonesia’s most popular boba drink brands Xing Fu Tang finally received its halal certification on Tuesday from the Indonesian Ulema Council Food and Drug Analysis Agency (LPPOM MUI) and Halal Certification Agency (BPJPH).
