Residents decided to revamp their kampung with a 4D theme as they wished for it to become among the city’s tourist destinations.
Through the eyes of the haves, the kampungs of the city might be unpleasant to look at. Dark, situated alongside alleyways and densely populated with little room for residents to move, kampungs may not represent modern, urban living.
Besides offering discounted products, these batik kampungs also allow visitors to see how the fabric is created and even participate in making it as they serve as both tourist destinations and batik education sites.
These days housing is barely available, even for those in the middle class.
Ancol Dreamland Park management will transform the Ancol Art Market into Kampung Betawi for the upcoming Ancol Kampung Betawi Festival from June 15 to Aug. 31.
