The House of Representatives approved a request to grant three foreign soccer players Indonesian citizenship to allow the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) to register them on the team lineup for the next 2026 World Cup qualifier match against Australia on March 20.
The government needs to find out why mixed children aren't flocking to take up its offer and choose to gain Indonesian citizenship, lest it misses out on an opportunity to harness the huge potential of their multicultural backgrounds and global experiences in contributing to advancing the nation.
