View all search resultsA total of 1,762 traders in traditional markets across the country have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent months, with 68 of the traders succumbing to the coronavirus disease, according to data from the Indonesian Traditional Market Traders Association (IKAPPI).
While the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated people’s adoption of e-commerce and online shopping platforms, poor digital literacy and lack of access to proper internet infrastructure still hamper efforts to help traditional market merchants across Indonesia go digital with their businesses.
Indonesia has seen several COVID-19 clusters emanate from traditional markets. Among the recent ones are 26 confirmed cases related to Cileungsi Market in Bogor regency, West Java, 20 cases from Klender Market in East Jakarta and another 14 from Serdang Market in Central Jakarta.
