usic lovers and cultural enthusiasts can expect to have great time this weekend as the annual Jazz Market by The Sea kicks off this Friday.
Entering its sixth year, the three-day celebration features KLa Project, one of Indonesia’s most iconic musical troupes, as well as famed performers such as Erik Sondhy and Lisa Soul.
The opening night is set to showcase White Shoes & The Couple Company as well as Dialog Dini Hari and Endah N’ Rhesa, who all have a cult following among the country’s young music aficionados. KLa Project is slated to highlight the Saturday night show and is expected to draw thousands of spectators.
Visitors will also be entertained by local favorites with the likes of The Blessing Child, Rockabilly Mob, Fendy Trio, Sound of Mine, 4units, Sunday Jam and Gypsy Jazz.
The festival was originally designed to be a platform for celebrating the country’s diverse cultural heritage as well as for promoting Indonesia’s growing musical talents. This year’s theme, Clothing the Nation, reflects its commitment to that cultural celebration with fashion shows; classes on batik-making, weaving and embroidery, as well as educational workshops on traditional textiles.
Drawing its inspiration from the island’s traditional pasar seni (art markets), Jazz Market by the Sea also features more than 80 carefully curated market stalls, including stroll-around traditional cuisine, refreshing beverages, handicrafts, amusements and plenty of engaging activities for children such as face-painting and a petting zoo.

Held at the spacious ground of Taman Bhagawan, which boasts manicured garden, tall trees, seaside swimming pool and a majestic pond in the style of a Javanese temple, the festival is the idea way to spend the weekend with your family.
“This is a family-oriented event and we went to great lengths to ensure that there's an interesting thing to do for each member of the family. The music lovers can watch the performance, the epicureans can sample a variety of delicious foods, kids can go swimming or run around, and there are enough fashion and craft booths to keep the girls happy,” said festival cofounder Jappy Sanger.
