he 2016 Lombok-Sumbawa Cultural Month began on Thursday with a West Nusa Tenggara and archipelago cultural parade. The festival will run until Sept. 16.
The parade, which took place on Jl. Langko, Mataram City, showcased several West Nusa Tenggara arts performances including gendang beleg music, a praje besunat (Sasak circumcision) entourage, serakal rebana music, a cupak gerantang show from East Lombok and a decorated cidomo (horse-drawn cart).
West Nusa Tenggara Deputy Governor M. Amin said: “Our target up to this year is to reach 3 million domestic and international tourists. We will try to attract the same amount of tourists locally and internationally.”

According to Amin, Lombok-Sumbawa Cultural Month would not only promote the region’s music, dance and traditional arts, but also West Nusa Tenggara’s potential.
Other aspects of the region such as natural resources, tourism, the creative economy and historical heritage are being promoted in the hopes of spurring business and investment opportunities.
To reach the target of 3 million tourists, the West Nusa Tenggara administration is actively promoting the region’s tourism, highlighting its strengths in halal tourism. Lombok-Sumbawa Cultural Month 2016 will continue until next month with various events including a folk games festival, Senggigi festival, cilokak game, rudat dance festival, tunag festival, multiethnic festival and horse race in Bima.
