Among attendees was Tourism Ministry secretary Ukus Kuswara. “I’m very proud of this concept, a brilliant idea that gives more benefits to the growing awareness of Kuningan regency’s cultural values,” said Kuswara.

Also in attendance were Kuningan Regent Acep Purnama and his deputy, the Bandung Institute of Technology principal and the Kuningan Education and Culture Agency head, who officially declared Kuningan the "angklung regency."

“I appreciate the declaration of Kuningan regency as the angklung regency. This can be used as a promotional tool while also showcasing the potential that this regency has,” Kuswara said.

Acep Purnama explained that angklung education had been passed down from generation to generation.

“Daeng Sutigna was the man who invented and developed diatonic angklung in Kuningan regency,” said Purnama.

The angklung has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. (asw)
